Hi, I’m Marina.
I’m the traveler behind Marina Explores, where I share thoughtful, active, and budget-conscious travel across the U.S. and Europe.

After 18 years teaching elementary and junior high, I stepped into a new season of life — helping my husband run our family businesses and finally having more flexibility to travel.
My husband and I had our daughters young, so for years our trips were simple: camping, quick getaways, and whatever adventure we could fit into a school calendar. Now that we’re empty nesters, we’re exploring in a whole new way.
And I’ve discovered that I love planning travel almost as much as taking the trip. I enjoy researching destinations, figuring out the logistics, and building itineraries that balance budget, activity, and memorable experiences. Our first big Europe trip — a 17-day itinerary through Italy that I planned over the course of a year — really shaped how I travel today.
I’m drawn to active travel, long walking days, scenic viewpoints, local experiences, and finding ways to save on the things that matter less so we can spend more on the things we’ll remember.
What You’ll Find Here
You’ll find the itineraries I’m building, the trips I’m actually taking, and the things I’m learning along the way — plus practical tips, real-trip reviews, photography, and budget-conscious ideas to help you plan your own adventures.
I’m not a full-time traveler or a professional photographer. I’m simply someone who genuinely loves the research, the planning, the exploring — and sharing what I’ve learned.
